Keep on Walkin’ – One of five songs on the CD that was co-written with dear friend and occasional co-writer David Henman, Juno Hall of Fame member and founder of Canadian rock icons April Wine. When we initially wrote it with our band called “The Business” the lyric was written quickly and had little or no meaning. For this project I re-wrote the words to reflect the struggles my friends Sam Pollard and her life partner Brenda Grant have been facing while dealing with Brenda’s cancer.

The Only Thing – A love song, pure and simple

Remember Me – One of two songs on the CD that are directed towards my daughter. This one is a little angsty, concerning a disagreement that we had, and still do. I love her like crazy, but our children can exasperate us sometimes. I make up for this complaint later in the CD.

I Will Be Your Man – Originally written to chastise a friend, this lyric was also re-worked to become what it should have been in the first place. A love song.

Little Voices – Everyone’s heard them, haven’t they? Those little voices in the back of your head that tell you that you just have to see more of that person you just can’t stopping thinking about. Another Henman & Reid collaboration.

A Perfect Summer Night – One of my favourite things. A guitar, a warm summer night….

If You Please – Written shortly after I met my wife, Cindy. The writing was already on the wall..

Sing Like Johnny Cash – The lyric starts out with my dear, departed mother advising me to learn how to sing like Johmmy Cash. Okay, Mom would not have told me that. She wasn’t that big a Johnny fan. But artistic license aside, it’s still a fun tune with a bit of a message.

In a Little While – I told you I’d make it up to my daughter. This song is about being a single Dad living 200Km (120mi. for those of you that are metrically challenged) from your little girl. It’s a bit difficult, still, to sing without tearing up a bit, but in the end the message is still “I love you”, and that’s always good.

Cold, Cold Night – I don’t think you ever get over losing your Mom. This is just me, letting her know I’m in love and doin’ fine.

She’s my Inspiration – Another love song. Hey, when you feel it ya gotta write it. Ironic that this song comes in order just before the next one.

One Little Rainbow – Written after one of the numerous times during my marriage when I’ve behaved like a twit. I suspect many listeners will be able to relate.

Not a Cloud in the Sky – I was intrigued by the idea of writing a country whiner song complaining about the fact that I can’t write a country whiner song because I have nothing to whine about, if you follow me.

Go East – An homage to my favourite province, bar none, Nova Scotia. If you’re from there, and you ain’t there, you’re probably homesick.

A Piece of This Country - Okay, NS is my favourite, but I’ve lived all across Canada, and I’ve always found good folks with well-earned pride in their region. I was smart enough to ask Jade Dunlop to sing this ode to Canada for me, and in my opinion she aced it.

A Mother’s Son – Inspired by a Toronto Star photo of a Canadian soldier’s mother in grief. I’m anti-war in any form, but very pro those-who-fight for their fellow Canadians. The 48th Highlanders let me use their rendition of “The Maple Leaf Forever”, which I’ve always felt would make a much better national anthem than “Oh Canada”.
